While students entering their freshmen year of college may find there to be numerous scholarship opportunities, transfer scholarships for transfer students may at first seem more difficult to locate. Even so, students who are transferring from a community college to a larger university will find there are transfer scholarship opportunities to be had.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships for Transfer Students
One of the largest sources of transfer scholarships is the Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. There is actually more than $37 million available in transfer scholarships to students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa. These scholarships for transfer students are available at more than 700 four-year universities and colleges around the country. One of those is the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Through this scholarship fund, a maximum of $30,000 is available per student annual. This transfer scholarship offers funding for tuition as well as room and board, textbooks and other required fees. In order to be considered the student must be nominated by the community college. Applications are usually due by the first of February; however, there may be internal deadlines which occur earlier.
Jeannette Rankin Foundation offers Transfer Scholarships
The Jeannette Rankin Foundation also offers transfer scholarships for women who are economically disadvantaged and age 35 or older. Award amounts for these scholarships vary. Funding from these transfer scholarships may be used for associate programs as well as vocational program. Applications are usually due by the first of February.
Transfer Scholarships from International Scholar Laureate Program
The International Scholar Laureate Program offers eight scholarships worth $1,000 each to members of Phi Theta Kappa. To qualify, you must be studying in an international field of diplomacy, international relations, business, medicine, nursing or engineering. The deadline for this scholarship is March 4th.
Hites Transfer Scholarship Program
The Hites Transfer Scholarship program consists of ten scholarships that are each worth $7,500. This scholarship is intended to recognize outstanding achievement of members of Phi Theta Kappa. Recipients are required to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program at a senior institution that is regionally accredited. Interested applicants may begin sending in application on January 1st. The application deadline for this Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is March 15th.
Guistwhite Scholarship has Transfer Scholarships
The Guistwhite Scholarship program is composed of 20 scholarships that are each worth $5,000. Students are required to transfer to a baccalaureate program at a senior university or college that is regionally accredited. Interested students may begin sending in applications on October 1st. The deadline for this scholarship is December 1st.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund Transfer Scholarship Program
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund also offers transfer scholarships to students who are enrolled at community colleges and intend to transfer to a senior institution with plans to pursue a baccalaureate degree. Award amounts vary. Applications are due in December.
Other Transfer Scholarships
Beyond the transfer scholarships available for members of Phi Theta Kappa, there are also many other types of scholarships available for transfer students. This includes the Heidelberg Transfer Award. Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 semester hours or 23 quarter hours to be eligible. Eligible students must also have a GPA of at least 2.8. This scholarship is available for students transferring to Heidelberg College. The deadline for applying for this scholarship varies so it is best to check directly with the college.
Maryland students who are attending a community college in Maryland and who plan to transfer to a senior institution in Maryland may wish to apply for the Maryland Community College Transfer Student Hope Scholarship. The deadline for this application is March 1st. The award amount for this scholarship is $3,000 for each academic year and may be applied toward tuition as well as room and board, textbooks, mandatory fees and supplies.
The Junior College Transfer Scholarship is a $4,000 scholarship that is awarded over a period of two years to students graduating from a community or junior college with an associate degree. The deadline for this transfer scholarship is March 15th. Eligible students must have demonstrated strong scholastic ability and must also have plans to attend a four-year university or college with plans to complete a baccalaureate degree.
Colorado Christian University offers scholarships directed at transfer students. If a transfer student has acquired at least 15 college credits since High School, then that GPA will be accessed for the scholarship. However, if the student has less than 15 college credits their High School GPA will be used.
