There are a variety of different design scholarships from DAC available, and getting one or more of them can certainly help to make your education in this rewarding field more affordable. Designers with a degree are proven to get more work and to make more money for the work they complete.
What is DAC?
If you aren’t familiar with DAC, it stands for the Design Automation Conference. This is an annual event that they sponsor to share new information, to generate passion, and to encourage people to complete their education in this field. People from around the world have been attending for almost 50 years. It is the oldest and largest conference in electronic design automation.
The design automation scholarships that are offered are in place to reduce the chances of someone not being able to pursue such an education due to it being a financial hardship. While not all of their designer scholarships are based on financial need, most of them are. The award amounts are higher than most scholarships and that is also important to take note of. The DAC program only continues to get better and to offer more funds over time which is also encouraging.
DAC Alumni Scholarship for design
One of the great scholarships for design offered is the DAC Alumni Scholarship. This is offered to those that don’t currently have a job so they don’t have a sponsor that could support them in attending DAC. The scholarship is offered to those that are in IC or EDA. There are up to 50 design scholarships offered annually, with each of them being $500.
The awards are offered via a lottery system, so all of the eligible applicants have a very good chance of being awarded. The chance of winning one of these design college scholarships varies based on the total number of applicants. These DAC scholarships in design can’t be used for transportation or housing expenses. Should any winner of this scholarship get a job before they use it, they will have to relinquish it.

This funding is offered for those that also belong to an under represented sector such as women, Hispanics or African-Americans. The A. Richard Newton Graduate Scholarship is in memory of this great doctor. The funds are given to a student that shows significant interest in electronic design automation. The dollar amount can be up to $24,000 over the course of 2 years. The funds are dispersed to the university and any funds not used for the student in that window of time must be returned back to the scholarship fund.
Young Student Support Program
DAC also offers a Young Student Support Program to encourage students to pursue studies in this particular field. The scholarship introduces winners to this type of program by setting them up with mentors and tours. All winners will get a free ticket to the DAC conference and banquet.
They will also be given funds to help them with the travel costs involved with getting to that location from where they reside. The location changes annually. Winners agree to attend a meeting in San Diego, California and to give a presentation about their learning experience.
